Arrival in Nepal!!!

Ida and I woke up at 3 this the morning.  Luckily I was knocked out by 6pm the night before and got plenty of sleep. We arrived in Kathmandu at 2pm and got our visas upon arrival. That was super easy. From there we took a taxi to our hostel, Alobar1000. I really enjoyed the car ride.

Kathmandu is beautiful!!! It feels very village-like. Even though there is lots of traffic like Bangkok , it feels so much more calm and peaceful, especially being surrounded by mountains. Many of the buildings are vibrant with color, which I love! All over you see people with all different types of bike-like vehicles and attached carts full of merchandise, fruit, or materials that they are selling. There are also many bikes for giving tourists rides as well. 

Before taking us to our hostel, the taxi took us to a tourist information center. We weren't all that surprised, had happened before in Bangkok but we hadn't had good experiences so when we got there we both just looked at each other, hoping for the best. Turned out to be helpful and not a total scam. Some things we'll be doing are things to look forward to hearing about. 

The hostel we're staying at is super cool. I'll have to take pictures tomorrow. After dropping off our stuff, we walked around a bit. There are tons of little open shops selling all kinds of things. The road is fairly narrow and there isn't really any sidewalks so people just walk along the side meaning we do a lot of dodging motorbikes here, more so than Bangkok I think. When it came time to eat, it was actually kind of difficult to find a place, only because there are so much more little shops to buy scarfs, pouches, or other nicknacks in this area than there are places to eat. 

This is what we had for dinner. The dumplings are called Mo Mo. I can't remember what the other dish is called but the soup had lentils in it and was so good!

We ended up at a really cute, quaint restaurant on the roof of a hotel. While we were the only ones eating there, we well taken care of by the guys serving us. We were welcomed with a friendly "Namaste" and how are you. People are very laid back here and have a very calm presence. There are still people trying to get us to buy stuff but it's different. The main guy serving us helped us pick out food from the menu. We ordered the two common Nepalese meals on the menu and shared them. It was so yummy!!! The whole experience was amazing. We had a great view, there was a cool breeze and we were surrounded by their adorable rooftop garden. Such a wonderful welcome to Nepal!
